The first chamber of Mammoth Cave is wheelchair accessible, making it the most accessible of all the show caves in the area. To get started, download your MP3 self-guided audio tour, which is available in English, French, German, Malay, and Mandarin.
When you enter the cave along a gently sloping path through bushland, you’ll realise how much there is to see. Over 10,000 fossils had gathered inside the cave at one time; upon excavation, many of these were discovered to be the remnants of Australian Megafauna (large animals) that died out roughly 46,000 years ago. The cave wall even has a 50,000-year-old ‘zygomaturus’ jawbone lodged in it.
