Blue Mountains Day Adventure itinerary:
The Coast Warriors Blue Mountains adventure begins near your hostel / hotel with some central Sydney pickups. We have just over an hour to get acquainted with the group after everybody shuffles on the bus or feel a little anti-social grab a pillow for a nap before we reach our first Glenbrook stop…. coffees yewww!
Glenbrook in the lower Blue Mountains is the home town of one of our fantastic local guides who made this awesome day trip together. We will stop at Glenbrook for a fast coffee / smoothie, bathrooms or try an awesome gourmet meat pastry made locally before we move on.
Trudy drives the iconic image of the Blue Mountains higher up the mountains to Ktown (Katoomba), site of the famed Three Sisters rock formations. They look closely at the three ladies where your guide can tell you about their aboriginal meaning. Now that the day’s most touristy stop is over, we’re going to the more cool and locally known Wentworth Falls.
At Wenty Falls we embark on a moderate level of about 90 minutes, enclosed nature hike down the undercliff path, through the ‘ Stairs of Doom ‘ and National Pass to the bottom of the 187-meter waterfall in Jamison Valley or some travellers call it Jurassic Park particularly on foggy days.
On the hike we pause at several incredible viewpoints where you can really appreciate the true beauty and scale of Sydney’s beautiful Blue Mountains in the true millennial style of your iPhone / Android lens or just their two eyes for those really weird travellers! Don’t worry that you don’t need to be a millennial smartphone.
This hike isn’t overly challenging but if you don’t feel up to it then you can take the easy walk to the first waterfall and cliff walk then walk back to the bbq area in your own time and have some free time to watch the kookaburras, Magpies or watch the development of the Instagram storey today.
All that sightseeing, bush walking and waterfalls make people thirsty, so after we walk up the Stairs Of Doom back to your Aussie BBQ lunch that’s not just a bread sausage. At the barbie feel free to try one of the world’s slenderest meats, kangaroo…. We’re eating everything in here. We also provide food for veggos and vegans. You are welcome to bring any kind of your own beverages with your lunch that you can place on our onboard Esky (ice box), we also attend a tour bottleo. We are pleased to say that Coast Warriors is the only tour operator in Sydney to cook a fresh barbie lunch …. lunch is on us! We’re selling water bottles for a cheap $1 with all the proceeds going to charity though sometimes we’re out of water so please be eco-friendly and carry a water bottle you can refill all day.
After lunch we head over to Lincoln’s Rock which is a truly stunning rock lodge with uninterrupted Jamison Valley views … You sound like you’re on the edge of this planet. Then we head deep into the bush of Glenbrook’s Blue Mountains National Park, down a long dirt road to a valley that is a popular hang-out and camping place for kangaroos. These kangaroos are as wild as they can get and we often see joeys in and out of the pouch, the occasional battle against kangaroo and kookaburras.
We’re going to a hidden Coast Warriors lookout after getting a few snaps of kangaroos which we only know because of our wealth of local knowledge. Though we substitute this hidden perspective on the warmer days with a dip and sunbath at my nearby Glenny swimming spot called Jellybean Pool! This local swimming hole is as Aussie as it can be, it’s surrounded by trees, birds, rocks, some random natural sand and a clear blue sky overhead.
Upon returning to Sydney, we always end up at a local bar with a drink together for anyone who wants to continue into the night with their new mates…. or get soft and go home and sleep. Our assigned drop off is in the city at 814 George Street under Wake Up Hostel and just minutes walk from the central train / bus station, Chinatown and the beautiful Darling Harbor.
